Yamashita, in addition to writing songs for himself, has written songs for other performers as well (namely the KinKi Kids, early on in their careers). He is also husband and producer to singer Takeuchi Mariya. He is probably most well known for his song "Christmas Eve", which was used as the theme song to a string of commercials for JR, Japanese Railways, used year after year.
