| "ohanami" or "cherry blossom viewing" is the act of viewing the falling cherry blossoms, or even cherry blossoms that are still on the trees. This is often done in large public places such as parks. Sometimes tarps or blankets are laid down, and a group will sit on that tarp or blanket and look at the cherry blossoms. Cherry blossom viewing may or may not be accompanied by plenty of alcohol! The second two lines in this song are full of nonsensical words that I'm guessing are supposed to represent drunken singing. A "someiyoshino" is a specific type of cherry tree (sometimes called a Yoshino Cherry Tree). Since in the lyrics it is getting "toppled", "noshiyoimeso" is "someiyoshino" backward (according to the Japanese syllabic alphabet). The line "hito yo hito yo ni hito migoro" was created to help remember what the square root of 2 is: 1.41421356. In this case each number is converted into one of the Japanese syllables that it can be read as, forming this sentence. The phrase "hana yori dango" (literally "dumplings over flowers") is supposed to convey a meaning of taking the practical over the aesthetic. |
