The group was initially formed by Mitsuru, who drafted Mochida immediately after she graduated from high school (though she was involved in a Morning Musume-esque girl group even before she graduated from high school), and also taking on his friend Ichiro as the guitarist. He wasn't a featured member of the group until after the first single was released. ELT (as the group name is often abbreviated to) was formed with three members, the third being keyboardist and composer Mitsuru Igarashi. He left the group in 2000, but the group continued to prosper with only the two remaining members.
