Dir en Grey formed when an indies band called La:Sadies disbanded in 1997. This group featured all of the members of Dir en Grey with the exception of Toshiya. They made their major label debut due to Yoshiki (famed former X-Japan drummer/pianist, and now famous producer/song writer), who produced them and helped write their first few major label singles and first album.
