The word "tourbillon" is french for "whirlpool". Ryuichi and Inoran were together in the popular rock group Luna Sea, before they dissolved. After that, but before forming Tourbillon, Ryuichi had a solo career, and Inoran was in the group Fake? with Ken Lloyd (formerly of Oblivious Dust). H. Hayama was involved with the group D-Loop, and also played and composed a song on Ryuichi's "Vanilla" album.
