Yamaguchi was a very popular pop singer and actress in her time, and continues to remain of interest to the public today, many years after her retirement in 1980. She retired from the entertainment business to marry her frequent costar Tomokazu Miura. Several of her songs are still covered today, including "manjushaka", and "ii hi tabidachi".
