Makihara is a fairly well known singer/song writer. He's not only well known for the songs he's written/performed himself, but also those that he's written/performed with other artists. A notable example would be writing "Chicken Rice" with Downtown's Matsumoto Hitoshi, which was performed by Makihara himself along with Downtown's other member Hamada Masatoshi. However, the most well known example of this is probably Makihara having written SMAP's smash hit "sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana".
