Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi

Information:
A singer/song writer for both himself and other artists, Nagabuchi is considered to be somewhat of a staple of the Japanese rock industry from way back.
Nagabuchi's solo career began with his debut single "ame no arashi yama" (which also won him first prize in the song contest that got him onto the JVC label). However, the song was arranged in a very enka-like way, much to Nagabuchi's frustration (he was trying to stay away from that sort of a traditional style). Because of this, Nagabuchi is not fond of his debut single to date. After his disappointment with his debut single, he signed with Toshiba EMI. At this point his career would become very successful.
In the 1980's Nagabuchi would look to shed the folk sound that he began his career with. He would help achieve this by adopting the gruff voice that he is so well known for now. He did this by gargling shouchuu (sake) to intentionally make the sound of his voice more rough. This may seem like a strange thing to do, but it truly did help to define his signature sound. Possibly because of his rough voice, Nagabuchi is widely regarded as one of the most masculine (if not THE most masculine) musician in all of Japanese music.
Nagabuchi has also had a couple of movie roles ("The Family Game", "Bodyguard", "Otoko wa Tsurai yo", and "Eiji"), and has acted in some TV dramas. He is married Shihomi Etsuko (a well known Japaense actress).
